Design Manager Data Centers

The NorthC Design Manager (DM) has three main tasks:

• Deliver guidance on the data center design. For this the DM will work in coordination with the NorthC Project Manager and the appointed design consultant to ensure the project’s design stage objectives are met. The DM will oversee a diverse portfolio of design projects for new build and projects for expansion and sustainability improvements of NorthCs data centers in the countries where NorthC is active. The DM shall participate in tenders by creating tender documentation and the evaluation of the proposals. In the test and commissioning phase of the projects the DM will support the project team in developing the requisite documentation and ultimately shall evaluate and validate the results in close collaboration with the NorthC stakeholders.
• Maintain and enhance the NorthC Data Center Blueprint. The DM will be proactive in establishing practices, templates, policies and tools coordinated between the various disciplines, CSA, Mechanical, Electrical, Safety and Security. The DM will keep him/herself up to date on trends and technical developments in the data center market.
• Act as the internal contact point for questions about data center technology. Participate in the due diligence of site selection with Mergers & Acquisitions team and/or drive feasibility studies. In the ambitious expansion objective of the NorthC data center portfolio the DM will be asked to provide technical studies and feedback to the management team. This includes the development of high level designs to support the acquisition of plots of land and also the assessment of potential acquisition of existing data centers.

Although the DM will participate in many project teams, the appointed DM will report to the Group Director Projects. The Design Manager shall be based in the Netherlands but a willingness to occasional travel across the countries where NorthC is active is also essential for the position.

Responsibilities

• Conduct comprehensive design reviews and provide technical guidance throughout the project lifecycle.
• Communicate actively with all stakeholders, including consultants, contractors, suppliers, authorities, and internal teams.
• Manage and coordinate with design consultants and suppliers to ensure design progress aligns with scope, schedule, and quality standards.
• Stay updated on the latest trends and technical advancements in data center design.
• Develop tender documentation and participate in the evaluation of proposals.
• Collaborate with NorthCs Operations and Facilities departments for sound testing and commissioning procedures.
• Ensure all designs adhere to established processes, health and safety (HSE) regulations, and quality systems.
• Lead feasibility studies and contribute to technical assessments for potential land acquisitions and existing data center evaluations.

Capabilities

• Holds a Master’s degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering.
• Has over 10 years of experience managing multidisciplinary design, engineering, and construction projects, in data centers.
• Up-to-date knowledge of data center market developments.
• Familiar with design methodologies.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving mindset; can-do mentality and adaptability.
• Effective communication skills for interacting with technical and managerial stakeholders.
• Professional-level presentation skills and ability to represent NorthC with integrity.
• Ability to maintain professionalism and influence decisions with persuasive arguments.
• Proficiency in English (written and spoken) is required; German proficiency is a plus.
