Green hydrogen
With green hydrogen, we reduce the carbon emissions of our emergency power systems. This means you can rely on a more sustainable IT infrastructure. The only by-product is water (H₂O). Our data center in Groningen is one of the first worldwide to have a fully carbon neutral emergency power supply based on green hydrogen. Our second data center in Eindhoven uses hybrid generators that run on natural gas and green hydrogen. Once the hydrogen infrastructure in the region is ready, we can entirely switch to hydrogen. We plan to expand these carbon neutral systems to more locations in the coming years, ensuring you have a sustainable IT partner.
Green Energy
Our data centers run on 100% green energy, which directly contributes to lower emissions for your IT. Additionally, we are exploring ways to power our data centers directly with wind and solar energy. If we can generate our own energy in the future, we can further explore how we can produce our own green hydrogen to power our new emergency systems. This way, we build a green chain and provide a stable, eco-friendly energy solution that aligns with your sustainability goals.
Data center waste heat
The heat generated in our data centers is used to heat the surrounding buildings. For example, we share heat with companies through the local heat network at the High Tech Campus in Eindhoven. Our new data center in Eindhoven is designed to share waste heat from the start. In Aalsmeer, a daycare center, a plant exporter, and a swimming pool use the waste heat from our nearby data center. In return, we receive cold to cool our data halls. In Rotterdam Schiebroek, we are participating in a large project to heat 10,000 households. All our new data centers are standardly equipped to share waste heat. When there is a local initiative, we make our residual heat available. You can trust that NorthC contributes to a greener environment and sustainable solutions.
Artificial Intelligence (AI)
We use AI to make your IT more sustainable and cost-efficient. We installed Ekko sensors that monitor airflow, temperature, and relative humidity during a recent pilot. With these AI insights, we optimize cooling, which lowers energy consumption. This way, you have an IT partner committed to an eco-friendly future without compromising reliability and performance.
Modular Construction
We build our new data centers modularly, meaning we only activate assets when they are needed. This results in lower energy consumption because, for example, power, cooling, and monitoring are only activated when capacity is used. We fill empty rack spaces with blanking panels to prevent wasting cooled air. We also install sensors to turn on lighting only when needed. We continuously improve by replacing old equipment with more efficient alternatives. In short, you can count on a highly efficient and sustainable IT environment that grows with you.
