(Update 11 June 16:30)
The recovery work to switch building 1 from the temporary to the regular power supply will start shortly. The work will be carried out in three phases:
- From 22 June, the power feeds to the data halls in building 1 will be switched one by one to the fixed installation via building 2.
- From 2 July, a transformer will be added to the temporary power supply for the cooling system. This will take place without interruption.
- From 13 July, the remaining power feeds will be equipped with a UPS and transformer. This will also take place without interruption.
The work is expected to be completed on 17 July. After that, the power supply will again run on the regular electricity grid, with emergency generators as back-up, as our customers are used to from us.
Customers have been informed directly about what this means for their equipment and what support is available.
(Update 29 May 13:30)
Our customers in Almere 2 (building 2 of the Almere data center) have been reconnected to grid power. The technical room in Almere 2 was not damaged as a result of the fire. Therefore, the temporary generators for Almere 2 are no longer needed and have been taken out of operation.
For Almere 1 (building 1), we still expect to be able to connect the first part to grid power by the end of June. The current expectation is that the full data center will be running on grid power again by the end of July.

RCA timeline fire in Almere
Several independent experts are investigating the cause of the fire. The area is severely damaged and unstable, so it must be secured before access is possible. The experts and the demolition company are working together to determine which investigations are feasible and how to conduct them safely.
The provisional schedule, subject to change:
- Investigation and work plan: from the week of 8 June
- Technical investigation: from the week of 29 June
- Report: between mid-July and the end of July
Due to the complexity and current safety conditions on site, the process cannot proceed more quickly.

Connection to grid power
We are working to reconnect the data center to the electricity grid as soon as possible. This will take place in several phases.
We will connect Almere 2 first. The current expectation is that this will take place in the week of 25 May. The technical room in Almere 2 was not damaged by the fire and, once it has been connected to the electricity grid, the permanent emergency generators will again serve as back-up.
For Almere 1, we need several more weeks. We expect to be able to connect the first part of Almere 1 to grid power by the end of June, and then have the entire data center running on grid power again by the end of July.
(Update May 20, 16:30)
Restoration of grid power at Almere data center
An investigation into the restoration of grid power shows that we expect to be able to reconnect building 2 to the grid soon. The restoration in building 1 will take more time; this includes the installation of new transformers and UPS systems. On Friday, 22 May, we will know more about the timelines for this process.
(Update May 13, 11:30)
This morning at 9:30 a.m., the temporary, redundant power supply and cooling in our data center in Almere were successfully activated. This marks an important step in the recovery process following the fire on May 7. Our customers’ ICT systems are now being restarted in phases and under controlled conditions.
The analysis for reconnection to the regular power grid has begun. The temporary installation will then remain available as a backup facility. In parallel, specialized experts are conducting an investigation into the cause of the fire.
